This is a simple guide on how to Jailbreak your Apple TV with firmware 4.4.4 using Seas0nPass. This entire tutorial was done using Windows 7. This is also an Untethered Jailbreak.
What you will need:
- Apple TV Second Gen (The small black one)
- Micro-USB Cable (To connect to your computer)
- Computer (Mac or PC)
- Latest Version of iTunes (Download)
- Latest version of Seas0nPass (Download)
Before you start… Make sure your Apple TV is up to date with software version 4.4.4 and you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer.
Step 1: Download, unzip, and launch Seas0nPass
Step 2: Click “Create IPSW” and wait Seas0nPass to build your IPSW. (Time to do this depends on the power of your computer)
Step 3: Once done, Seas0nPass will ask you to put your Apple TV into DFU mode.
DFU Mode: Connect your Apple TV to your computer with ONLY the Micro USB plugged in. Hold down the MENU and PLAY/PAUSE buttons at the same time for 7 seconds and then release. (THIS CAN ONLY BE DONE WITH THE SILVER APPLE TV REMOTE)
Step 4: Seas0nPass will see DFU mode and ask you “Would you like iTunes to restore the firmware automatically?” click “YES”
Step 5: iTunes will now launch and automatically restore your Apple TV with the Jailbroken IPSW
You will now see a small “FC ” Logo in the bottom left of your Apple TV home screen to confirm that you have a Jailbroken Device.
Now What?
You are probably wondering what to to with your newly “freed” device… What I primarily use this for is Plex and XBMC. This way I can steam ANY format data to my TV without any hassle at all. Try PLEX out yourself with this simple guide: LINK
Hi!
I’ve tried this a number of times now and it always fails with different errors (11,21,1600,1611) in itunes when doing the restore of the jailbroken ipsw.
Am I supposed to do anything else but run seas0npass? Store shsh blobs on cydia for instance? Haven’t done that and don’t know how to do it for the apple tv 2?
I’ve tried using tinyumbrella and I can see that itunes accesses the tinyumbrella TSS server but the restore still fails with error 11.
Any help appreciated!
BR
Lennart
I suspect the cable since the errors are inconsistant, but before purchasing another cable, it’s worth attempting a normal restore from iTunes, then reattempting the jailbreak. If it fails while attempting the restore from iTunes, I’d try another cable.
