Missing Device Power Management Options (FIX)

I was running into an issue where my laptops wireless adapter would not reconnect after returning from sleep. I would troubleshoot the problem and the repair would read "The default gateway is not available". I was able to track this issue down to the power management settings shutting off my network device and not properly turning it back on. Easy enough, I can just disable the power management settings for my wireless network adapter...at least that's what I thought I could do. When I loaded the device properties (From Device Manager) the "Power Management" was nowhere to be found. On to of that the Network Adapter settings where also missing form the power management plan settings.   How to enable the power management settings: Launch your Registry Editor (Windows button and type "Regedit") Navigate to: "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power" Select the entry called 'CsEnabled' Change the "Value data" to "0" and select "OK" Reboot your machine NOTE: If  'CsEnabled' is not there, create a new "DWORD (32-bit) Value". Title is 'CsEnabled', Value Data '0', Base 'Hexadecimal', and 'OK'. Missing Menu Options Example: Registry Editor Key & Its Location:  Restored Power Management Options: [...]

App Scaling on High DPI Displays (FIX 2019)

5 (FIVE!!) years ago I posted an article titled "Adobe App Scaling on High DPI Displays (FIX)" that would help Windows users scale their older or non DPI aware application to be usable on their new high pixel density displays. This was needed since Windows (or Adobe) did not have a solution at the time and application elements would be too small for proper use.   Fast forward to April 2018 and Microsoft releases an update to Windows that offers built in High DPI settings. To this day get emails regarding the old solution despite updating it last year with this new solution. My hopes with this article is to encourage users to follow these steps and not the old ones.  How it's done: Right-click the shortcut icon of applications you want to adjust Select 'Properties' (If the icon is in the taskbar, you will have to right-click the second app icon) Select the 'Compatibility' tab  Select 'Change high DPI settings' at the bottom of the tab Check 'Override high DPI scaling behavior' at the bottom Select 'System (Enhanced)' from the drop down Select 'OK' and then 'OK' again to apply Launch the application to see the difference  [...]

Force Cortana To Use Chrome & Google – Windows 10

If you are like me you exclusively use Google for all web searches. I also am very fond on pressing the Windows button and searching for the app or file I want. When Cortana was introduced in Windows 10  they added the ability to search the web from the start menu as well. Unfortunately it was exclusive to Edge and Bing. Bellow I show you a step by step of how to change that to the browser and search engine of your choice. This adds a the very convenient ability to search the web the way you want from any application with the press of the Windows button. […]

Two Finger TAP Right-Click on Synaptic Touchpad

When I recently picked up my Yoga 2 Pro, I realized that everything was running smoothly and quietly until I had to right click and a loud audible clicking sound jarred me from my tranquil browsing experience. Without putting thought into how petty this issue may be, I started to seek out the option for right-click two finger tap in the Synaptics settings panel. Unfortunately it was not there, but with some digging, I found it deep in the registry… […]

Adobe App Scaling on High DPI Displays (FIX)

Please try the new solution by following this link: Windows High DPI Fix I recently purchased a new Yoga 2 Pro with a gorgeous 3200 x 1800 display. My main purposes for this device was to do some heavy lifting on the the road with many of my professional applications. I was quickly discouraged when I first fired up Fireworks, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Illustrator to find that I needed a magnifying glass to see simple menu options. There is the simple solution of downing the resolution to 1600 x 900 and changing the scaling to 100%, but you cut your gorgeous display down to a quarter of its previous glory…and that’s not the point. SO! Rather than change a bunch of setting every time I needed to use a few apps by Adobe, I started to seek out a better solution without much luck. […]
